The rooms are designed by the ignorant for the gullible! Although there is style without substance, the following design choices are unfortunate, to say the least! Note that we did take what is designated as a superior room. The space was there, but not conveniently arranged. - toilet is far too small for comfort, though it looks stylish enough - shower is arranged so that spraying the nearby floor becomes impossible, the rain shower cannot be engaged as the control does not work, and the hand shower is very flimsy - bedstands are too small and too flimsy to hold anything essential at bedside - there is insufferable pretence about excellent drinking water being available from a particular tap in the corridor. However, all tap water in Zurich is the same, is excellent, and such pretence is nothing but false advertising. There is no mini-bar! No place where one can even put something to be cooled. It needs to be given to the hotel registry! There is no room service and the breakfast room is not wonderful. Fortunately, the bed was comfortable--the only commendable thing to be said about this establishment. However, the location is very good and the place was quiet.

This was my fourth time staying at this hotel, and it is exactly what I needed it to be for an overnight stay. Was very grateful to be upgraded to a historic room, which was huge. With a really lovely bathroom. Made use of the lovely cocktail bar downstairs. The hotel is always very clean and the staff are very nice and helpful. Great location, couldn’t ask for anything more for an overnight stay.

A lovely boutique hotel with good facilities and service. Marktgasse Hotel is situated in the heart of Old Town Zurich, so it's a walk away from good restaurants. Very comfortable beds and a spacious bathroom. It is about a 10 minute walk from the train station (Zurich HB) and fairly close to the airport. The only downside was that I felt that the room wasn't cosy, but I believe that that is a personal preference and nothing against the hotel itself.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel - beautiful, clean, chic boutique design and feel - spacious, well designed room with very comfortable bed and pillows, not to mention a superb location and helpful, polite staff. The front desk staff even provided us with a pass for free admission for to the Kunsthaus Zürich (although be advised that the pass is only valid for one person's admission, not two!), free coffee, tea, etc. in the reception area. Perhaps most of all, we enjoyed the beautiful library, a perfect place to read/work quietly, stocked with books of all genres. The one minor disappointment was that there was no on-site fitness center/spa (although guests have free access to one, about a 12 minute walk from the hotel). The hotel might make it clearer to prospective guests that this is the case - but this was very minor relative to all the hotel's strengths. Overall, a wonderful hotel and very enjoyable stay. Highly recommended!

The first thing you are asked upon check in is your passport. I wonder why? You can't pay with a passport. But it upholds a time venerated tradition of a couple of formerly totalitarian states nearby and all the presently totalitarian states. The next thing will be a requirement to register your passport upon entrance to a restaurant. Want to stay in a hotel? Passport bitte. Want to eat in a restaurant? Passport bitte. Perhaps they sell all your passport data. Once you relinquished your passport and got a key, a wonderful surprise awaits you before you enter your room: a sink and a faucet in the corridor equipped with glass carafes and glasses announcing that you can enjoy for free the best drinking water in Zürich. Tap water in Zürich is not potable. I anticipate next/this year yet another innovation of this sort right next to the sink: a blow hole where you would press your mouth to it and get for free the best blast of purest Zürich air. Enjoy. Once you enter your room, you can't help noticing two porcellan night tables the size of a jar of fruit preserves. There is space for a normal night table but you are provided with these toy size appendages where you can safely place a packaged condom, perhaps, since that is the only thing big enough for it to hold. The shower exhibits normal flooding tendencies, the hand held shower would not be easily attachable to the metal bar and sprays indiscriminately. It may be good for a youth hostel but not for $300 a night.
